Mangaluru: No water shortage fear for now

Bantwal: Two years ago, Mangaluru city suffered from a water shortage crisis in summer due to less water stocked in the Thumbe dam here.
However, this year, there is 6 metre excess water stocked in the dam and if the water level increases then the additional water will be let out.
Last year too there was no problem of water shortage as the dam had a high volume of water. Moreover, rains too had started early reducing any fear of a shortage.
Due to the rains over the past few days water inflow into the river has increased, causing excess water to flow out. At Shambur AMR dam, the water is discharged after power generation. This water too is flowing into the Thumbe dam.
After the inauguration of the new dam with 7 metres of water storage capacity, the fear of water shortage in Mangaluru has largely subsided.
