Mangaluru: Notorious criminal arrested for drug peddling

Mangaluru: A notorious drug peddler has been arrested with MDMA, Mangaluru CCB police said on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Hasan Sadiq alias Blade Sadiq (35) of Vitla Patnur in Bantwal,  was found peddling the banned drug MDMA, police added.

Police said the arrest was made during an operation that was launched based on a tip-off about MDMA procured from Bengaluru being sold to the public in the city and Kerala in a car.

As much as 50 grams of MDMA worth Rs 2.5 Lakhs, A Maruti 800 car, a mobile phone, digital weighing scale were confiscated. The total value of the goods seized is estimated to be around Rs 3.65 lakhs, police added.

A case has been registered at the Konaje police station.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner Kuldeep Kumar R Jain said that more suspects are involved in the drug peddling racket. A search is currently underway to nab them, he added.

Hasan Sadiq has previously been booked for various crimes including assault, attempted murder, molestation, kidnapping, death threats, and robbery at various police stations in the district including Puttur, Uppinangady, and Kavoor police stations as well as Hebbal police station in Bengaluru. He has 17 drug peddling cases against him.

A court had issued a warrant against him as he had been absconding for 6 months without appearing for court proceedings, police said.
