Mangaluru: Despite multiple extensions in the application deadline, more than nine postgraduate courses at Mangalore University have not received a single enrollment for the 2024-25 academic year.
The university offers 42 different courses across 28 departments. However, courses such as Statistics, Electronics, M.Ed, MSW, Geo-Informatics, and Material Science, among others, currently have no students enrolled, according to recent reports.
To boost admissions, the university extended the application deadline twice—first to September 25, and then further to October 10. Yet, there has been no significant increase in student numbers, with only two days remaining before admissions close.
The university had earlier decided to temporarily suspend any course where the student enrollment was below 15, with plans to reopen those courses once numbers improved. However, considering the students’ academic interests, the university has revised this threshold. Now, courses with a minimum of 10 students will be allowed to continue.
Despite over 1,800 applications being submitted, only around 680 students have been admitted so far.
Meanwhile, courses like M.Com, Chemistry, and Biotechnology have attracted more interest from students, with M.Com witnessing the highest number of enrollments.
