Mangaluru: BJP MLA Vedavyas Kamath on Wednesday clarified that the Principal Commissioner of Income-Tax (PCIT) office in Mangaluru will not be merged with the Goa office.

His remarks come in the backdrop of the opposition to the said relocation/merger of Mangaluru PCIT office with Goa office.

Speaking on the subject Kamath informed that there is a proposal to have a single person as the Chief Commissioner at both the offices. In this backdrop, the Chief Commissioner at Mangaluru PCIT office may shift to Goa. But news regarding the relocation/merger of the entire office is far from true, he said.

Mangaluru PCIT office, which covers the Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts generate an annual income of around Rs 4,000 crore. BJP MP Nalin Kateel had written a letter to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister DV Sadananda Gowda urging them against the relocation of the office, he added.

Further, Kamath alleged that the Congress was misleading people by spreading rumours on the issue for their political benefits.
