Mangaluru: Medical officer Dr Ratnakar arrested for sexual harassment

Mangaluru: The medical officer, accused of sexual harassment of women colleagues, has been arrested by the police. Video and images of Dr Ratnakar harassing his female colleagues had gone viral on social media, prompting public outrage.
Addressing media Mangaluru Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, a case has been registered at the Women’s Police station here on Friday. The accused, Dr Ratnakar has been arrested and is being interrogated.
However, the women who were harassed by the officer declined to file a complaint, Compol said, adding that the women have assured to cooperate during the investigation.
Meanwhile, the medical officer has been suspended from his duties as the district programme officer of the Health and Family Welfare Department.
Earlier, the deputy commissioner Dr Rajendra K V said that Dr Ratnakar has been under suspension since November 8. “A departmental investigation was being conducted by the health department,” he added.
