Mangaluru: In a bid to uplift the morale of senior citizens, the city Police Commissioner announced a dedicated counseling program to be conducted by the Department.
The initiative aims to address the mental health concerns of elderly residents living alone at home.
As part of the prelude to the counseling sessions, the police have already commenced their efforts by visiting residences in 438 locations, spanning all the stations under the Commissionerate. Notably, they engaged with over 100 senior citizens at the Urva police station, engaging in meaningful conversations and understanding their needs and challenges.
The urgency of the counseling program came to light during a recent police phone-in program held on Saturday. A concerned citizen from Vamanjoor raised an alarming issue about the mental well-being of senior citizens residing alone. The caller expressed their worries, stating that the elderly population in such living conditions appeared to be suffering from feelings of depression and confusion.
In response to this revelation, the Mangaluru Police Department has taken proactive measures to address the concerns and provide much-needed support to the elderly population.
