Mangaluru: Police here organised a demonstration on the electronic financial fraud technique of ATM skimming on February 28.

This comes in view after many cases of this crime being reported from in and around Mangaluru.

Speaking to reporters after the demonstration DyCP Hariram Shankar requested citizens to be very vigilant while withdrawing money from ATMs adding that an inter-State gang is behind this criminal operation.

“Four accused were recently arrested who revealed that they procured the equipments for ATM skimming from e-commerce website Alibaba,” the DyCM added.

“The criminal gangs mostly target post office’s ATMs as many of their cards still do not have chips which makes them easier to be skimmed,” he said.

“In case you become a victim of ATM skimming, register a complaint at your bank’s branch within three days. As per RBI rules, your money will be returned to your account,” Shankar informed.
