Mangaluru: The office of the Mangaluru City Police Commissioner has warned of strict action against those spreading hate and misinformation on social media platforms.
In the wake of the recently concluded Karnataka Vidhana Sabha election results, a surge in hateful and provocative messages on social networking sites has come to light. These messages, based on caste, religion, and region, have raised concerns over the preservation of peace and harmony in the region, a press release said.
To combat this issue, the “Social Media Monitoring Cell” has taken decisive action by forming specialized teams tasked with tracing and addressing such content.
Spreading such messages, including posting, forwarding, liking, and commenting on derogatory messages, is against the law and strict actions will be initiated against the perpetrators of such posts and threatening messages, the Police commissioner added.
Police Commissioner advised the public not to engage with or spread any form of fake news or hate messages.
