Mangaluru: A QR code system for houses and shops in all wards of the Mangaluru City Corporation will be implemented to facilitate coordination between the public and the Corporation.

The new system is being implemented under the SmartCity project to monitor waste collection in the city.

The QR code system has currently been implemented in about 20,000 buildings in the city, while another 80,000 are pending.

There were many complaints from residents of some wards that the garbage collection vehicle would not come to their areas every day. The new technology is being used to avoid such problems and respond to complaints instantly.

A QR code scanning machine will be given to every garbage collector. They will have to scan the machine before collecting garbage from a house or shop. The scan will send a message to the Integrated Command Control Center operating under the Smart City project.

“The QR code system has already been implemented experimentally. The system will now be introduced to all wards. Already, work on implementing QR code for homes is in progress,” said Mayor Premananda Shetty.
