Mangaluru: The 201st edition of the Mangluru Rathothsava was celebrated with gaiety and pious devotion at the Sri Venkataramana Temple on February 7.
This year’s annual chariot festival was more special due to the use of the new Brahmaratha (grand Chariot) built at a cost of Rs 2 Crore. Thousands of devotees from across the globe participated to pull the Brahmaratha on its maiden ‘rath yatra’.
Earlier in the morning, Kashi Mutt Pontiff Sri Saiyamendra Teertha Swamiji performed the pooja to Sri Venkatesha, the chief deity of the temple. The Chariot pulling commenced after the pontiff offered the Maha-Magalarathi to the deities.
