Mangaluru: Seven arrested in KC Road-Hosangadi kidnapping case

Mangaluru: Police officials have arrested seven persons on Tuesday, April 27, in connection with the KC-Road- Hosangadi kidnapping case

The arrested are identified as Yakoob (33), Umar Nawaf (24), Naushad (28) from Manjeshwar, Ahmed Iqbal (33) from Attavar,  Shamsheer (29) from Kasargod, Sayyed Mohammed Kausar (41) and Sheikh Mohammed Riyaz (28) from Uppala.

The Ullal Police officials have seized Three cars, one bike, 10 mobile phones, a gold necklace, few property documents and several weapons from the accused

On April 22, victims, Ahmed Ashraf and his friend Javed were kidnapped from KC Road and Hosangadi respectively. The accused locked them up in a house and assaulted them. They demanded money and property documents from the victims’ families.  The victims were rescued from Talapady on April 24.

The accused have now revealed the motive behind the kidnapping. It is said that one of the accused Iqbal was cheated by the victims Ahmed Asharaf and Javed. They convinced him to invest money in a company named MCT and promised that he will get three times the return for his investments

Iqbal invested around Rs 27 lakh in the company for which he borrowed Rs 5 lakh from the other accused in this case, Yakoob.

The victims had to pay around Rs 99 lakh to Iqbal but they only ended up paying Rs 10 lakh.  Angered at the loss of his money, Iqbal contacted accused Umar Nawaf to plot the kidnapping of Ashraf and Javed.

Umar Nawaf is a habitual offender and has 10 cases registered against him

All the accused are now in custody except one who has been tested positive for Covid-19.  Once recovered he too will be taken into custody.
