Mangaluru: Six held for pickpocketing

Bajpe: Police here have detained six people, who were involved in pickpocketing of devotees visiting temples.

The police had started to track the gang’s vehicle after a case was registered against them on January 12 in Bajpe by a woman who’s handbag was snatched by them at Kateel temple.

Information was received by the police that at around 3 pm on the January 13 the gang was heading towards the Polali temple. Barricades were set up at Adduru checkpost and the gang was stopped and questioned.

After initially giving diversionary answers the gang later accepted to pickpocketing at various temples.

7 mobiles worth Rs 75,000, Rs 21,540 cash and Rs 6 lakh worth vehicle used in the crime was later seized by the police.

It was learnt from the gang that they had conducted pickpocketing operations in various Idagunji, Murudeshwara, Gokarna, Sringeri and Kollur temples.
