Mangaluru: Several political and social entities based in the city here have threatened to organise demonstrations against the hike in prices of private bus tickets.
Communist Party of India (Marxist)’s Dakshina Kannada district chief Sunil Kumar Bajal said that a coalition of organisations including the Congress, Janata Dal (Secular), Democratic Youth Federation of India and a few other dalit organisations have decided to come together to stage city-wide protests if their demand of rolling back of the fares are unmet.
Bajal said that already daily commuters have to set aside about 25 per cent of their income for travel expenses and with the hike in bus fares the common people, already hit by financial problems due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will have to bear extra brunt.
