Mangaluru: Speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri said termed government schools as ‘factories’ where children develop creativity.
He said this addressing the gathering at the valedictory programme of “Kannada Shala Makkala Habba” on Sunday, November 20 organized by the Keshava Smriti Samvardhana Samiti at Sanghaniketan for government school children from class 5 to 10.
Kageri said that the government schools were nowhere behind in terms of imparting quality education in comparison with the English medium schools.
Speaking on the scenario of children being pressurized by parents to get good marks, he said that the parents pressurizing their children to get good grades and jobs with good pay was not a healthy approach. He said this culture will not help inculcate good values in children but will end up leaving their parents in old age homes.
How to lead a good life and build a nation should be the motive of education, he opined.
Meanwhile, he emphasized inculcating a trilingual policy, in which, first the mother tongue, second the local language, and then the national language.
Kageri opined that by respecting all three languages, it is possible to preserve values and culture.
