Mangaluru: Spelling mismatch makes Thirthahalli woman miss her flight to Dubai

Mangaluru: An elderly woman passenger from Thirthahalli who had to fly to Dubai on Saturday, November 21 was not permitted to board the flight due to a mismatch in the spelling in her COVID-19 report.

The woman’s COVID-19 report stated that she was tested for the virus in the government-run ‘Shivamogga Institute of Medical Sciences,’ however, the stamp on the report by the district authorities bore the spelling ‘Shimoga.’

Calls from her relatives and Shimoga district officials to clarify the issue did not convince the airline who refused to board her on the flight.

Finally, after agreeing to undergo another test in a Mangaluru private hospital the airline relented and booked her on a flight on Sunday, November 22.
