Mangaluru: Statue of freedom fighter Ramayya Gowda to be unveiled on Nov 19

Mangaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will be unveiling the statue of freedom fighter Kedambadi Ramayya Gowda at Bavutagudde (Light House Hill) on November 19, said Mangaluru South legislator D Vedavyas Kamath.
Addressing the media, Kamath said that an 11-foot-tall statue of Ramayya Gowda will be installed at Bavutagudde commemorating the historic Amara Sullia Rebellion of 1837 which was led by Gowda.
Speaking about the statue, he said that the statue is created at Vijayawada of Andhra Pradesh and will be installed at a cost of Rs. 40 lakhs.
For the project, MCC has already sanctioned Rs 30 lakhs and the remaining amount will be sanctioned by the Kannada and Culture Department, he said.
Informing about the arrangements of the inauguration event, he said that around 25,000 people are expected to attend the event and necessary arrangements will be made for people attending the event.
During the meeting, Mayor Jayanand Anchan, Deputy Mayor Poornima, MCC Commissioner Akshy Sridhar, and others were present.
On November 19, CM Bommai will also be laying foundation stones for several development projects in the district.
