Mangaluru: After the November 19 cooker blast case, the Mangaluru Police have taken several stringent security measures, one among them being document verification before renting out homes and paying guest (PG) accommodations.
This rule is now said to likely be implemented at its fullest in the Mangaluru Commissionerate limits.
Owners starting PG or who already have will have to mandatorily obtain the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the district administration and Mangaluru Police Commissioner’s office. People staying as a PG shall obtain Police Confirmation Certificate (PCC).
The police are also planning to launch the “Neighbourhood Watch” programme to keep an eye on daily activities in the public domain.
As per the investigative reports, the main accused Mohammed Shareeq is said to have produced his personal ID and got a house for rent in Mysuru. After the Mangaluru blast incident, the police clearance certificate was made mandatory. Following this, several district administrations have implemented stringent verification rules.
One of the senior police officials said that it was necessary to tighten the verification rules before renting out the house and PG. He said that in the past there were several cases where persons staying at PGs were involved in illegal activities.
On investigating, the police came to know that they did not possess any documents, as well as the permissions, were not sought by the PG owners to run one, he said.
Speaking to Udayavani, Mangaluru Police Commissioner N Shashikumar said, “The rules which are already framed will be implemented strictly. We are also planning to implement the ‘Neighbourhood Watch Scheme’. Soon a systematic draft will be brought out to regulate PG”
