Mangaluru: Three gold smuggling cases busted, gold worth Rs 1.3 crore seized

Mangaluru: Three separate gold smuggling cases were busted by Customs at Mangaluru International Airport on Wednesday, April 7. 2.8 kg of gold worth Rs 1.3 crore was seized by the officials.

The accused have been identified as Muhamad Ashraf, Rajesh, and Mohammad Kalnad.

Ashraf who arrived from Sharjah to Mangaluru on flight no. IX 746 was found with a gold compound concealed under his feet. Rajesh, the other accused had arrived on a GoAir flight. He was found with gold concealed in four capsules in compound form in his rectum.

Following the inputs from the Intelligence Agency, the third accused, Mohammed Kalnad was arrested. He had arrived from Sharjah in a GoAir flight and was found smuggling gold in compound form by concealing it in packets glued under his feet.
