Mangaluru: Toll gates yet to implement no minimum balance rule for FASTags

PTI, Mar 14, 2021, 10:44 AM IST

Mangaluru: Since February 15, the Union Ministry of Highways has waived the rule mandating a minimum balance of Rs 200 in FASTag-linked wallets.

However, many toll plazas in coastal Karnataka and also others in the State are yet to fully implement this rule. As a result instance of altercations between toll plaza workers and motorists are common.

As per the new rules, if a vehicle’s FASTag has zero balance in its e-wallet then the toll amount must be deducted from the bank account linked with the e-wallet.

However, a toll employee claims, the machines at the toll plaza are not yet reprogrammed as per the new rules hence it charges double the amount of toll rates on detecting no minimum balance in the FASTag wallet.
