Mangaluru: ‘Training Centre’ for fishing enthusiasts

Mangaluru: A special fisheries training centre will be set up under the Mangaluru Smart City Mission with the aim of creating new employment opportunities in the fisheries industry, which is the livelihood of millions of families along the coast.

Coastal fishing is the pillar of the economy. Every year, the fisheries industry, which is worth crores of rupees, directly and indirectly, employs lakhs.

The new centre will be built on land belonging to the city’s Hogebazar Fisheries College. The building will be built under the Smart City Mision and 2 years of fisheries-related training will be provided free of charge by the College of Fisheries.

Accommodation and dining will also be available. The expenses of the trainees will be provided by the Mangaluru Smart City Private Limited for the 2 years. About 180 trainees will be provided with training in the centre every year.

The total cost of the centre will cost Rs 4.75 crores. The construction of the buildings in the centre will cost Rs 2.40 crore.

The construction of the building started from Friday, May 29 and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. 2.35 crores for the rest. Rs.

Working fishermen, unemployed youth and those who left school will be trained in the centre. The courses will include port management, fisheries, netting, fish cutting, boat repairs, ornamental fisheries etc.
