Mangaluru Varsity Ganeshotsava row: Delegation petitions K’taka Governor

Mangaluru: A delegation of MPs, MLAs, and Syndicate members of Mangaluru University met Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot at Raj Bhavan and appealed to hold the Ganeshotsava at the Mangala Hall on September 19, like every year.

The annual Ganesha Festival has generally been held at the Mangala Auditorium at the varsity.

After much deliberation, the Syndicate, on December 20, 2022, decided to organize the festivities through the student Welfare Directorate, the delegation said and added that the decision to shift the location from Mangala Hall to another location has hurt the sentiments of devotees.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateelu, MLAs Sunil Kumar, Vedavyas Kamath, Dr Y. Bharath Shetty, Harish Poonja, Bhagirathi Murulya, Gurme Suresh Shetty, and former syndicate member Ramesh K. were part of the delegation.

Though fees are collected from students for the cultural fund, the varsity is claiming that there are no funds available for Ganesha Festivities, the delegation alleged.
