Mangaluru: In a twist to a suicide-turned murder case of a 36-year-old man in Amparu on October 19, police officials suspect that the man was murdered by his wife to waive off loans.
The deceased identified as Nagaraj (36), resident of Vivek Nagara, Modubage in Amparu village was murdered by his wife Mamatha (34), and her acquaintances, Kumar and Dinakar. Two minors were also said to be involved in the murder.
After the arrest of the accused, locals claim that Mamata had taken a loan of two lakh rupees from a cooperative society and Nagaraj was the guarantor.
Mamata believed that if Nagaraj was murdered and projected as suicide or natural death they wouldn’t have to pay the loans as a person in their village died of ill health and his loan was waived.
However, Mamata was not aware of the fact that the loan gets waived(rules applied) only if the borrower dies not the guarantor.
It is said that Mamata mixed sleeping pills in his food and killed him by tightening a rope around his neck when he was asleep.
Later, she filed a complaint claiming that her husband had hanged himself. She claimed that he was heavily addicted to liquor and had become frustrated with his life.
But Nagaratna, sister of the deceased expressed suspicion of foul play as they noticed injury marks on his body. She then filed a complaint at the police station stating that her brother was murdered. Police then arrested five in connection with the case.
