In a significant stride towards creating a “drug-free Mangaluru”, the CCB Police apprehended a youth involved in peddling MDMA in the city.
Police said the accused, identified as Lukumanul Hakeem, alias Hakeem (22), was taken into custody following an operation in the Bendoorwell area of Mangaluru. Hakeem is a native of Ajjawara Village, Sullia Taluk, and resides at an apartment complex in Bejai.
Police confiscated 25 grams of MDMA with an estimated street value of Rs 1.25 lakhs. In addition to the prohibited substance, a mobile phone, a digital weighing scale, and various other assets were also seized, bringing the total value of the confiscated items to approximately Rs. 1,60,000, police added.
Hakeem, who is currently pursuing his graduation at a college within Mangaluru city, has been booked under relevant sections of the law at the Mangaluru East Police Station, CCB police added. Sources within the police department indicate that the investigation is ongoing, as it is believed that several others may be involved in this drug distribution network.
