Manipal: Burning car moves in reverse… tragedy averted

Manipal: A car caught fire at around 1:35 AM on Friday in Manipal.

It is gathered that the car belonged to a patient’s family who had come from Kundapura to KMC Hospital. Two individuals had parked the car by the roadside (on the slope below the MIT bus stop on the Parkala-Manipal road) and were sleeping inside.

Upon realizing the car was on fire, both individuals escaped safely. It is reported that the car, with the handbrake released, started rolling backward.

As the burning car moved backward on the road, it posed a significant danger. Fortunately, the car was stopped by a branch of a tree that had fallen during the previous night’s wind and rain, preventing a major disaster.

The fire brigade from Udupi arrived around 2:00 AM and extinguished the fire.
