Manipal: A speeding car lost control and crashed into the Udupi Municipality’s drinking water pump house located at Eshwara Nagar, Parkala, late night on Sunday. Fortunately, the staff member sleeping inside the pump house escaped unharmed.

The car, reportedly moving at high speed, rammed into the building, causing significant damage to both the vehicle’s front and the pump house infrastructure. Despite the severe impact, the municipal staff member inside the pump house managed to avoid injury.

Locals have expressed concerns over the lack of safety measures in the area. The pump house, managed by private operators in Manipal, is situated near a national highway, but there are no protective barriers or warning signs indicating an old road ahead. Additionally, roadworks in the area had left the surface uneven, with potholes reopened after a recent attempt to fill them.

This is not the first incident in the area. During Krishna Janmashtami, two vehicles met with accidents at the same spot. Residents have now called for the urgent installation of safety barriers around the pump house to prevent further accidents and ensure public safety.

The car involved in the accident bore Udupi registration, and police are investigating the matter.
