Manipal Kasturba Hospital: Improved Incisive CT scanner inaugurated

Udupi: The new generation 128 slice Philipps Incisive CT scan machine which helps in accurate detection in the process of identifying disease was inaugurated at Manipal Radio diagnosis division which is near Manipal Kasturba Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Care by Dr Sudarshan Balla, President of Manipal Health Enterprises, Bengaluru, on Wednesday.

Dr Sudarshan addressing the gathering at Dr T.M.A. Pai Convention Hall remembered his days as a student. Then, the CT scan was not available. Diagnosis tests were not advanced. Now through radio imaging, the detection of disease and images of growth has provided a high level of relief to the patient. Through this machine, doctors are now capable of identifying the exact cause and thereby giving a good diagnosis to the patients. These are the successful days of humanity, he said.

Manipal MAHE and Kasturba Hospital have come up with various schemes for the poor through which its services are available at a subsidized price thereby creating hope for the poor. Now, through this machine, the poor too will be benefited. This is the first CT scan machine to be installed not just in India but also in SouthEast Asia. Through the use of this machine the efficiency and the accuracy in deciding the disease becomes definite, said MAHE Chancellor, Dr H.S. Ballal, who presided over the function.

In this time where the patients have lost their faith in doctors, this machine helps in winning back their faith again, said Manipal Health Enterprises Administration Director and CEO Dilip Jose.

Milestone

The relationship between Phillips and MAHE has helped in improving the standard in detection of diseases. After obtaining the license, the machine will begin its service to the public. This is a milestone in the modernization of the hospital through the use of safe, efficient, fast and improved machines, informed MAHE Chancellor DR. H. Vinod Bhat.

Hospital CEO C.G. Muttanna, KMC dean Dr Prajnya Rao were also present. Hospital medical president Dr Avinash Shetty welcomed the guests. Radiology division chief Dr Smrathi Shripati explained the specialities of the machine. Professor Dr Muttu co-ordinated the programme.

The specialties of the latest machine

  • The 128 slice incisive system with its workstation and software is capable of providing various diagnosis
  • Higher standard of functioning and more amount of work can be done. It also provides quality images.
  • Like other machines the normal images of head, neck, abdomen, and waist can be done through this machine. Along with this, it can do CT angiography of any part of the body.
  • The 3D Volume images obtained from this machine help immensely for an accident victim. Because, in such cases, quick imaging and diagnosis are very important.
  • The comprehensive cardiac software in this high-speed scanner identifies arrhythmia and during the time of difficulty in breathing, it accurately calculates the value in Coronary artery disease. Blood flow quantification is possible through Non-incisive myocardial proportion imaging.
  • Its other benefits include analyzing patients suffering from osteoporosis, sharp pediatric imaging and locating urinary bladder stones by use of low radiation.
