Manipal: MMNL Embraces Solar Energy for Sustainable Future

Manipal: Manipal Media Network Ltd. (MMNL) has taken significant steps towards not only achieving electrical self-sufficiency but also promoting sustainable environmental practices. The company has installed a solar power generation system, an alternative energy source.

The 200-kilowatt capacity solar plant installed at the MMNL office complex was inaugurated on Tuesday by MMNL Executive Chairman Mr. T. Satish Pai and Executive Chairman of Manipal Technologies Ltd (MTL) Mr. T. Gautham Pai.

This solar system was installed by Manipal Energy and Infratech Ltd (MEIL), a sister company of MMNL.

The complex has been equipped with 368 solar panels with a capacity of 200 kilowatts. According to the company, this installation will reduce carbon emissions by 51,000 metric tons per kilowatt and lower electricity costs by approximately 40%.

This is the first solar project for Manipal Energy and Infratech (MEIL), which has previously managed civil and electrical projects across the country. The company plans to expand into large-scale industrial and domestic solar installations in the future.

The event was attended by MMNL Managing Director and CEO Mr. Vinod Kumar, MTL Managing Director and CEO Mr. Abhay Gupte, MEIL Managing Director and CEO Mr. Sagar Mukhopadhyay, Manipal Group Head of Human Resources Mr. Pramod Fernandes, and MEIL VP Mr. Vishwanath Chauvan.

  • Annual savings of ₹25 lakh
  • Annual reduction of 51,000 metric tons in carbon emissions
  • Contribution to electrical power self-sufficiency
