Manipal: One dead, several injured after speeding car hits pedestrians

Manipal: One youth was killed and several others were injured after a speeding car rammed into pedestrians on the hilly road near Manipal Central Park Hotel Illijaru road on Saturday late night.

The deceased has been identified as Sahin S K (18), a native of West Bengal. He was returning home after finishing his shift at a hotel near Inox, Manipal.

Sumit Jaswal, Samsul Arif Hoque, Latipul Chowdhury, Sukhdeb Karmakar, and Sahin SK were walking beside the road when the car ploughed into them. They received injuries and are undergoing treatment at Manipal Hospital.

Sahin, who was seriously injured, died without responding to treatment.

The speeding car also collided with an auto rickshaw parked nearby.

The driver of the car fled from the spot and a case has been registered at the Manipal Police Station. On Sunday, the police took the car driver, identified as Dixit Raj, into custody.
