Manipal: Two arrested for stealing students’ laptops

Udupi: The Manipal police have arrested two individuals on accusations of stealing laptops and other valuables from students residing in an apartment.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Balan (34) from Tirupattur, Tamil Nadu, and Karthik (28) from Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.
On August 31, a case was registered at the Manipal police station after two laptops worth Rs 4 lakh and an Apple iPad were stolen from the room of Akash at Princess Keerthi Apartments in Vidyaratna Nagar, Manipal.
To solve the case, a team led by Manipal PI T.V. Devaraj, along with PSI Raghavendra, PSI Akshay Kumari, ASI Vivekananda, HC Imran, HC Sukumar Shetty, and PC Raghu, was formed.
On September 2, the team apprehended the suspects at Katapady bus station in Udupi district and recovered the stolen items. The accused have been remanded to judicial custody.
Manipal is home to several apartments where many students reside. The suspects targeted the expensive electronic devices such as laptops, mobile phones, and iPads that students often leave unattended in their rooms. The police have urged the public and students to be vigilant.
