Veteran music director Ilayaraaja has sent a legal notice to the producers of the recently released and superhit Malayalam movie ‘Manjummel Boys’. The notice, addressed to producers Soubin Shahir, Babu Shahir, and Shaun Antony, accuses them of copyright infringement.
Ilayaraaja’s legal team alleges that the iconic song ‘Kanmani Anbodu’ from Kamal Haasan’s movie ‘Guna’, composed by Ilayaraaja, was used without authorization in ‘Manjummel Boys’. The song features prominently in the climax of the movie, directed by Chidambaram, and has received significant acclaim.
Ilayaraaja has claimed ownership of the song and has demanded that the producers obtain proper permission to continue using the song in the film or remove it altogether.
‘Manjummel Boys’ is based on a true story about a group of friends rescuing their companion who falls into a deep pit in the Guna Caves of Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. The movie has been a worldwide success, grossing Rs 200 crore at the box office.
