Junk cars parked at the road in Mannagudda

Mangalore: The prolonged parking of junk cars on public roads in Barke Lane, Mannagudda, has become a significant issue for local residents.

A second-hand vehicle dealer has reportedly parked several junk cars on the public road for years, creating hurdles for commuters. This practice has not only obstructed the road but also led to problems like an increase in stray dogs and snakes in the area, causing fear for pedestrians and nearby residents.

Residents have appealed to the police department to remove these junk cars, but no action has been taken so far, according to a local resident.

Road Used by Children and Seniors

The road is frequently used by school-going children and senior citizens for commuting. However, the presence of stray dogs, taking shelter under abandoned cars, has made it unsafe for pedestrians. There have been incidents of dogs chasing schoolchildren and even attacking them. In one instance, a stray dog attacked an elderly resident, the residents said.

Locals allege that the junk cars provide a hiding place for the stray dogs, which attack passersby unexpectedly. Adding to this, people have started dumping garbage near the parked vehicles, causing a foul smell in the area. The residents fear the possibility of an outbreak of diseases due to the unhygienic conditions.

Authorities Urged to Take Action

The residents are urging the municipality and relevant authorities to take immediate steps to address the issue.

“I have noticed the problem caused by the parking of junk vehicles in Barke Lane and brought it to the notice of t the municipality commissioner and the RTO office through a written complaint,” said Sandhya Mohan Acharya, a municipal council member.

“Many children use this road to go to school. Junk cars pose a safety hazard. It’s become impossible to walk alone on this road. The authorities must clear these vehicles immediately,” said Shruti Ullal, a local resident.
