Belagavi: As the Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute heats up, another incident has popped up, where in the 17th edition of Marathi Sahitya Sammelan organized on Sunday, December 11, has passed a resolution to announce Belagavi district as Union Territory or make provisions to issue government-related documents in the Marathi language.
Several decisions were made during the lit fest.
According to the organizers, the border dispute is on for six decades, and that the Sammelan supports the cause. They have urged the Maharashtra government to sanction Rs. 5 lakhs every year towards the Sammelan and provide economic and social justice to the people living in the border area.
Addressing the gathering the president of the Marathi Sahitya Sammelan, Pracharya Yashawanth Pathane said, “Due to hatred towards religion and language the cultural values are diminishing. Mother tongue and culture are the birth rights of every individual. Mother tongue helps in developing knowledge, cultures, and traditions and it has an earthy touch to it. Our (Maratha) cultures and traditions give the message of prosperity.”
A procession was carried out before the inaugural programme.
Later, various sessions were conducted.
