Marathon for awareness on voting

Mangaluru: A 18 km marathon with the aim to spread awareness on voting organised by the Zilla Panchayat, Mangaluru City Corporation and Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports as part of Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation Programme (SVEEP) drive was conducted here at Mangala Stadium on Sunday, March 31.
The marathon was conducted in two age categories for citizens above 16 and below 16 years. The i8 km marathon was for those over the age of 16 years and route of the marathon commenced from Mangal stadium and proceeded via Mannagudda, New Chithra, Car Street, Sharavu Temple, K S Rao Road, Nava Bharat Circle, PVS Circle, Selma Arcade, Kadri Temple Road, Bejai, KSRTC, Lalbagh, Kapikad, Daddalkad, Urwa Store, Ashok Nagar, Urwa Market, Ladyhill and culminated back at Mangala Stadium.
For those beneath the age of 16 years, a 6 km long marathon was conducted from Mangala Stadium via Mannagudda, New Chitra, Car Street, Central Market, Hampankatta, PVS Circle, Ballalbagh, Lalbagh and back to the stadium.
For the senior citizens and the general public, a walkathon was conducted to spread awareness on casting one’s vote.
