Maruti S-Presso, the highly anticipated SUV-inspired hatchback of Maruti Suzuki has been finally launched today. The S-Presso is available in three trim levels in the price range of Rs.3.69 lakh to Rs.4.91 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is based on the Maruti’s Future-S concept that made its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo.
The S-Presso gets a tall-boy design similar to the WagonR. Unlike the other Maruti hatchbacks, the S-Presso features an SUV-inspired design with squared-out proportions and pseudo-SUV details like bold front-end, high stance, dual-tone bumpers and a new grille. In its interior, the S-Presso gets a dark grey theme and colour-coordinated elements similar to the one seen on the Future S concept, with a large cabin space.
As a segment-first feature, it gets the touchscreen infotainment system with rear camera and is the very first model of Maruti Suzuki to feature a central-mounted digital speedometer and tachometer. Other highlight features include the dynamic central control, best-in-class ground clearance, LED DRLs, prominent front wheel arches, a blacked-out B-pillar, flap-type door handles, turn indicators mounted on the front fenders along with standard safety features like ABS with EBD, dual airbags, rear parking sensors, front seatbelt reminder and speed alert system.
The S-Presso is available in six variants with Petrol engine option alone. Under the hood, the S-Presso features the Maruti’s 1.0-litre K10B Petrol engine with BS6-compliant. The three-cylinder DOHC engine produces 67bhp power at 6,000rpm and 90Nm of peak torque at 3,500rpm. Transmission duties are handled by either a 5-speed Manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. A 1.2-litre Petrol engine is expected to be offered later.
Dimensionally, the S-Presso is comparatively shorter and narrower but is taller than its direct rival, the Renault Kwid. It measures 3565mm, 1520mm and 1549mm in terms of length, width and height respectively. It has a wheelbase measurement of 2380mm and ground clearance of 180mm. The S-Presso runs on 13-inch wheels shod with 145/80-section tyres and its fuel tank capacity is 27 litres. Maruti offers the S-Presso in six colour options including Pearl Starry Blue, Metallic Granite Grey, Metallic Silky Silver, Solid Fire Red,Sizzle Orange and Solid Superior White.
In terms of competition, the Maruti S-Presso toughly competes with the likes of the Renault Kwid and the Datsun redi-GO.
