A six-time world champion and 2012 Olympic medallist, MC Mary Kom announced her retirement from boxing on January 24.

Mary Kom has decided to retire from boxing, in compliance with IBA regulations that restrict both male and female boxers from competing at the highest level beyond the age of 40.

At 41, Mary expressed her ongoing passion for the sport but acknowledged that the age limit stipulated by regulations marks the conclusion of her career.

Despite her continued desire to compete at the highest level, Mary admitted during an event that she is compelled to retire due to the age restrictions imposed by the sport’s governing body.

“I still have the hunger, but unfortunately, because of the age limit, it is over. I cannot compete in any competition. I want to play more, but I am being forced to quit (due to the age limit). I have to retire. I have achieved everything in my life,” Mary stated.
