Mass cheating: Govt Arts College principal relieved from exam duty

Bengaluru: Principal of Government Arts College P T Shrinivas Nayak has been relieved of his exam duties after allegations surfaced about mass cheating taking place during the Economics paper of the post-graduate examination held on Wednesday.

Nayak, who had been the Chief Superintendent of the examination center, is said to have confessed that he wasn’t at the center when the examination was in progress. Bengaluru City University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Lingaraja Gandhi said that information about the incident has been sought, based on which further legal action will be taken against the wrongdoers.

There are allegations that students engaged in mass cheating during the first semester examinations of Economics, Political Science, and Sociology papers, where students were allegedly allowed to carry notebooks, xerox copies as well as textbooks to the examination hall. The invigilators were allegedly hand in glove with the students, sources said.

“Shrivas Nayak has given a verbal statement that he was not present at the examination center when the examination was in progress. A written explanation has been sought from him,” Professor Gandhi said and added that in view of the serious allegations, it has been decided to appoint university officials as a sitting squad for the remainder of the examinations.
