Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi on Wednesday thanked the Centre for recognising the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) at Raichur and four other places as an institution of national importance.
Speaking to reporters here Savadi said that the Indian Institutes of Information Technology Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2020 was passed by Lok Sabha in the previous session on March and now the Rajya Sabha too has passed the bill.
This is a matter of honour for Karnataka’s education sector, he added.
On Tuesday, the Parliament passed a bill to declare five newly established Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), set up under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode in — Surat, Bhopal, Bhagalpur, Agartala, and Raichur as institutions of national importance.
These 5 IIITs along with 15 other IIITs, which are also built on PPP mode will now be able to use the nomenclature of Bachelor of Technology (BTech) or Master of Technology (MTech) or PhD degree.
