MGM Evening College celebrates second foundation day on Sept 2

Udupi: Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Evening College, an affiliate of the prestigious Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College in Udupi, celebrates its second foundation day with great enthusiasm on September 2. The college, which began during the Amrit Mahotsav of MGM College, has now completed two years of service.

Since its inception, this new institution has successfully attracted students from the coastal and Malenadu regions through its academic and extracurricular activities. Alongside academic pursuits, students are also being trained in essential skills to face their future with greater confidence.

The college started in the academic year 2022-23 with only B.Com and BCA courses. This year, it has introduced a BBA course as well. Initially, the college enrolled 109 students; now, it has grown to accommodate more than 390 students from various districts across the state. Among them, 68 female students reside in the college hostel.

The college is the brainchild of T. Satish U. Pai, the President of the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College Trust. He has taken special care to ensure that students receive various skill-based training alongside their education. Already, training in digital education, photography, videography, cake making, Yakshagana, personality development, and soft skills has been provided.

In this academic year, the college is preparing to offer training in areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, graphic designing, digital marketing, data analytics, cybersecurity, food preservation, tailoring, reading and writing skills, general embroidery, drama, light music, karate, and interior design. The college administration is committed to equipping students with the necessary skills along with their degree education. Students have already been informed about these opportunities.

The foundation day celebration will be presided over by T. Satish U. Pai. Additional Deputy Commissioner Mamatha Devi will be the chief guest, and B.P. Varadaraya Pai, Secretary of the Academy of General Education, will be the guest of honor.

The event will also see the release of the second edition of the college magazine, “The Horizon.” Scholarships totaling Rs 5.5 lakh will be awarded to 77 talented students, as arranged by the college’s chairman, according to Dr. Devidas S. Naik, Principal of Sandhya College.
