MHA to look into proposal on minority status for Lingayat row

New Delhi/Bengaluru: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday said it will inspect in detail the Karnataka government’s suggestion to concede minority tag to the Lingayat and Veerashaiva-Lingayat people group as and when it gets the proposal.

The comments came a day after the Siddaramaiah government chose to prescribe that minority tag be allowed to the numerically solid and politically-powerful Lingayat and Veerashaiva-Lingayat people group.

A senior authority said they are yet to get the proposal and that they can remark simply in the wake of looking at it altogether. The MHA is probably going to forward the proposal to the  registrar general and census commissioner for an examination and suggestions. The official stated, a choice will be taken only after the analysis.
