In a significant achievement, Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) secured the esteemed title of the best airport in the under 5 million passenger category at Wings India 2024, the largest Civil Aviation Exhibition in Asia.
Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister for Civil Aviation and Steel presented the award at the gala function in Hyderabad on January 18.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India, Airports Authority of India and the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry are organizing the 4-day event at Hyderabad in Telangana from January 18, 2024.
With 19,27,466 passengers handled in the calendar year 2023, MIA recorded an impressive 14.17% growth compared to the previous year, reaffirming its status as a key hub. December 2023 witnessed MIA handling its highest-ever passenger count since its commercial operations began on October 31, 2020, with a notable 2,03,654 passengers.
The airport has taken steadfast steps to emerge as a public asset of choice for people of coastal districts of Karnataka and neighboring district of Kasaragod in Kerala. An ASQ customer satisfaction rating of 4.94 on a scale of 5 and passenger complaints of 0.055/1000 passengers reaffirms the airport’s commitment to ensuring passenger satisfaction and convenience. The airport has steadily increased the number of F&B and retail outlets both within and on its premises, a press release by MIA said.
The recognition is attributed to MIA’s focus on operational efficiency, robust infrastructure, enhanced passenger services, and initiatives like the MIA Super App (Adani One) and a customer relation management tool for swift resolution of online passenger grievances. The airport has also been proactive in implementing eco-friendly measures.
Expressing gratitude for the honor, an MIA spokesperson stated, “MIA is dedicated to continuing and surpassing these efforts in 2024.”
