Bengaluru: The staffs of Karnataka Mid-day meal scheme held a protest on Tuesday at Bengaluru’s Freedom Park demanding a pay hike.
More than 600 workers including assistant cooks and chief cooks at the government school claimed that they are only paid Rs.2000 per month. They also said that they were denied basic pay, insurance, provident fund and pension.
The president of Karnataka State Midday Meal Workers’ Federation demanded that their salary should be raised to a minimum of Rs.5000 a month.
The workers protested from dusk to dawn facing the harsh weather. Three workers collapsed at the site due to exhaustion and were immediately rushed to the hospital.
