Min Angara to write to Centre on kerosene for traditional fishermen issue

Bengaluru: Fisheries Minister S Angara has said that he will be writing a letter to the Centre to release 3,313-kilolitres of kerosene for the convenience of traditional fishermen.

Responding to a question raised by Congress MLA K Harish Kumar, the minister said that the issue of diesel subsidy to boat operators would be discussed with the chief minister and officials of the Finance Department.

“A fish marketing unit and an aquarium is being planned at cost of Rs 30 crore and a jetty is being planned at Totabengre under RIDF project at a cost of Rs 337 lakhs,” he said.

“Discussion is on with ministries on the relaxation of CRZ rules for fishermen to build houses. Loans will be disbursed for fishermen’s development from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Fish Marketing Federations. Facilities are being provided under the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana. Kisan Credit Card scheme has been extended to fishermen and so far 368 cards have been issued to beneficiaries. Rs 2.90 lakh loans have been granted and many measures have been taken to waive fishermen’s debt,” he added.
