Udupi: District In-charge Minister, Laxmi Hebbalkar, visited the sea erosion-affected area at Kadipatna in Padubidri on Saturday, emphasizing the need for a long-term solution to prevent the recurring issue.

Sea erosion has been a common occurrence in the district during the rainy season for several years, leading the minister to pledge partnership with the state and central governments to address the problem permanently.

Despite a delayed onset of rainfall in the district this year, seven individuals have already lost their lives due to natural calamities. In response,  a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each has been disbursed to the affected families. All district officials have been directed to implement necessary precautionary measures to prevent further loss of lives during the rainy season, Hebbalkar said.

Information has been sought on the construction of footbridges and the progress of the vented dam construction in the district, she said, and added that appropriate actions will be taken accordingly.

The visit was attended by various officials, including Kaup MLA Suresh Shetty Gurme, Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao M, Zilla Panchayat CEO Prasanna H, Superintendent of Police Hakay Akshay Machhindra, and Tahsildar Srinivas Kulkarni.
