In a bid to facilitate the celebrations of Ganesh Chaturthi, the government has announced a special holiday throughout Dakshina Kannada district. The holiday, originally slated for the 18th of September, has been rescheduled to the 19th of September, following instructions from the District In-charge Minister, Dinesh Gundurao. This decision was made in response to a request from Legislative Council member Pratap Sinmha Naik.

The notification of this change was officially conveyed to the Chief Secretary to the Government and the Collector of Dakshina Kannada district. However, it’s important to note that no final decision has been reached regarding a similar holiday change in Udupi district.

Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker and Mangaluru (Ullal) MLA U.T Khader,  played a crucial role in advocating for this alteration of the holiday date.
