Following the heated exchange between former World Cup-winning players Gautam Gambhir and Sreesanth recent Legends League Cricket match in Surat, the LLC organizers vowed to conduct an internal investigation to address any misconduct strictly.
The league said that it would be taking action against any misconduct, both on and off the field, including on social media, to maintain the league’s integrity.
The altercation led to allegations from Sreesanth against Gambhir, calling him a “fixer” during the on-field spat. Umpires intervened. Sreesanth also took to Instagram post-match, accusing Gambhir of disrespect and using inappropriate language.
Gambhir responded cryptically on social media, stating: “You have exceeded the boundaries of a sportsman and a brother, and above all, you represent the people. Yet, you continue to engage in conflicts with every cricketer. What is the matter with you? All I did was smile and observe, and you labeled me a fixer? Seriously? Are you above the Supreme Court? You have no authority to speak in such a manner and say whatever you please.”
Ganbhir’s post received support from fellow cricketers, while Sreesanth replied at length, questioning Gambhir’s behavior.
Sreesanth, previously banned for alleged involvement in the IPL spot-fixing scandal, had his ban reduced by the Supreme Court in 2019.
LLC emphasized its commitment to the spirit of cricket and stated its intention to investigate the incident thoroughly. They stressed taking action against any misconduct, both on and off the field, including on social media, to maintain the league’s integrity.
Syed Kirmani, Head of Code of Conduct & Ethics Committee, reiterated their stance, while CEO Raman Raheja promised appropriate action for the breach of contract by any player.
LLC expressed disappointment over the incident, acknowledging its temporary distraction from an otherwise exciting season.
