Miscreants attack Hindu Samajotsava participants

Kasaragod: A few incidnets of violence were reported from the town and elsewhere when people returning after taking part in the Hindu Samajotsava organized here attacked by miscreants on Sunday Dec 16th. Apparently, the miscreants pelted stones at the vehicles which were returning after participation in the programme which in turn gave rise to clashes between groups.
The police resorted to lathi charge in order to contain the crowd. Stones were also thrown at a business establishment at Uliyathadka. Several merchants complained that the police had forcefully closed down several shops and other units and committed atrocity on the concerned.
Incident to be condemned
In order to condemn the incident, protest by way of closure of shops and other establishments in Uliyathaka town from 6 am to 1 pm is being staged on Dec 17th. There were stone pelting incidents at other places of the district and in one such incident at the Press Club junction in the town, a person identified as Ranjit was injured after stones were tossed at a car.
The police are maintaining a tight vigil in view of the untoward incidents. Precautionary measures have been taken to ensure the disturbance does not blow out of proportion.
