Miscreants destroy Pavoor Uliya temporary bridge

Mangaluru: Some unidentified miscreants have destroyed the Pavoor Uliya temporary bridge on Saturday February 2.

The destroyed bridge had been built by the local people by using their hard-earned money after the government failed to provide any help to the people who sought it repeatedly.

There is suspicion that the act must have been carried out by sand mafia as a revenge act after the residents had put an end to the illegal sand mining that was taking place in the area.

The residents had conducted raids at the sand mining areas last week and detained boats which were later handed over to the police. This was followed by another raid conducted by the geology and mining officials with assistance from the police in which more than 50 boats engaged in illegal sand mining were seized.

The action by the locals must have led to the revenge act by the sand mafia, it is suspected. Along with destroying the bridge, the miscreants also damaged some vehicles parked on the riverside.
