Miscreants open gunfire at local Hindu leader in Belagavi

Belagavi: Miscreants opened gunfire at Hindu Rashtra Sena chief and Sri Ram Sena leader Ravi Kokitkar and his driver in Hindalaga here on Saturday evening.

The incident occurred when Ravi was travelling in his Scorpio car Marathi Primary School in Hindalaga. The unidentified persons opened fire and fled from the spot.

Ravi and his driver sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital. They are said to be out of danger.

DCP Ravindra Gadadi coated the crime spot. Investigations are underway.

Police security tightened 

Following the incident, police cover in the area has been tightened. Check points have been stationed across the city, City Police Commissioner Dr. MB Boralingaiah said.

Speaking to the media in the city on Saturday, the police commissioner said that Ravi was coming to his native village Hindalaga from Belagavi city when the attack took place. There were four people on the Scorpio vehicle.

When the vehicle slowed down at the speed breaker near Marathi Primary School, two people on a two-wheeler fired one round. Ravi was sitting in front. Two others were in the back seat, he said giving details of the incident.

He said that Ravi and the car driver were injured in the firing. 

Police are treating the attack with all seriousness. Four teams have been formed to conduct a thorough investigation. The motive behind the attack is being ascertained. Appropriate action will be initiated for arresting the culprits, he added.
