Miscreants’ torch scrapped bus; fire brigade arrives, but late

Mangaluru: Some miscreants set fire to a scrapped bus parked beside the national highway at Jeppinamogaru in the outskirts of the city at around 5 am on Sunday April 14.
Kankanady town police immediately rushed to the spot but by then the fire had spread and engulfed a scrapped jeep parked at some distance away. On reaching the spot, the police tried contacting Pandeshwar fire station multiple times, but the fire personnel failed to receive their call. After 45 minutes of being unable to contact the fire personnel, the police contacted Pandeshwar police instead and conveyed the information to them and eventually, the fire personnel were informed of the situation.
By the time the fire brigade personnel arrived with equipment to the spot it was 6:20 am in the morning. People who had gathered at the incident spot expressed anger at the way the fire brigade functioned and wondered the consequence if lives were at stake.
