Mission Shramadan held at Hampankatta

Mangaluru: The 36th Shramadan of Ramakrishna Mission Swacchata Abhiyan’s fifth phase was carried out in Hampanakatta area on Sunday, August 11.
The shramadan was jointly flagged by Swami Satyeshanandaji, Assistant General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math & Mission, Belur Math and Swami Saukhyanandaji of Ramakrishna Mission, Shivanahalli, Bangalore Taluk in the presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji in front of Sri Krishna Bhavan auto stand on Ganapathi High school Road. Swathi Ram, National Executive, Youth for Seva, Bangalore was present as a special invitee.
Speaking on the occasion, Swami Satyeshanandaji said, “Swami Vivekananda said this land on which one is born is real god and we need to worship it. Swacchta Abhiyan gives us an opportunity to truly worship our motherland. This will benefit the individual as also nation. Cleanliness is Godliness. Through this Abhiyan we also become pure in heart and our welfare is assured.”
In her address Swathi Ram said, “Since we have neglected cleanliness for centuries, today this Abhiyan has become necessary. No work is inferior. Its our mental attitude that makes a work superior or inferior. I am glad and proud to note that every week, volunteers assemble under the guidance of Ashrama and take part in this Abhiyan. May this motivate other cities and citizens too.”
After the flagging off the shramadan, Swamijis joined volunteers in the cleanliness drive. Swami Ekagamyanandaji divided the volunteers into 4 groups and briefed them about the work.
Volunteers cleared a black spot prone to littering near the Sri Krishna Bhavan auto stand and removed the stones scattered in the parking lot and leveled the ground. Pots with flower plants were placed there. Several auto drivers participated in the drive. Another team of volunteers along with Kodange Balakrishna Naik cleaned the garbage lying in a corner of Light House Hill Road.
Volunteers cleaned the paintings and art works drawn on the compound walls of University College & Wenlock Hospital which were faded and covered with moss due to heavy rains. Another team under the supervision of Umakanath Suvarna cleaned the road dividers and placed new dividers.
Apart from this volunteers undertook repairs of the interlock road opposite University College to the left of GHS Road thus enabling smooth movement of traffic.
